Masculinity and Mourning
Berlin, August 2021 – The exhibition “Modern Quilts: Masculinity and Mourning” was held at the Tête Gallery in Berlin October 1 – October 3, 2021. The opening reception took place Friday, October 1, 2021, between 18.00 – 22.00.The exhibition is based on Scott’s travels through Mexico, where he was first exposed to the hyper machismo masculinity of the Lucha Libre wrestling scene and the symbolic and colorful celebrations of ‘Día de los Muertos’ (Day of the Dead). His work examines the spectrum of mourning, Mexican culture, and masculinity through the medium of modern quilting. In addition to the quilts, the exhibit will also showcased the work of photographer and cinematographer Patrick Tichy. Scott and Patrick collaborated to create a series of photos documenting Scott’s quilts in an urban environment.
